The spokeswoman of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, has disinformed that the attack on the largest children’s hospital in Kiev was caused by the air defense of Ukraine. Rescuers continued to search for more dead and injured in the ruins of Ukraine’s largest children’s hospital on Tuesday, a day after Ukrainian authorities said a Russian missile leveled a wing of the facility, killing at least 42 people.
What Zakharova stated?
“As for the attack on the hospital, the missiles of Ukraine’s air defense went off course again and hit residential buildings and public facilities, as has often been the case with Ukraine’s air defense.” It happened this time too. It has already been confirmed, including by numerous witnesses, that one of the missiles from the Western air defense system NASAMS hit a building on the grounds of the Okhmatdyt Children’s Hospital in Kiev. “Russia is using precision weapons to hit its targets in response to the Ukrainian army’s attempts to attack the enterprises of the Russian economic complex,” Zakharova said.
Analysis:
A children’s hospital in Kiev was hit after Russia launched a wave of missile strikes on cities across Ukraine. Two people died when the Ohmatdyt children’s hospital – Ukraine’s largest pediatric facility – was badly damaged by the blast, while 42 people died in Russian attacks across the country.
Ukraine has confirmed that it found the remains of a Russian cruise missile in the hospital and rejects Russian claims.
Ukraine’s statement was backed up by a UN assessment that said the attack on the hospital was most likely caused by a direct hit from a Russian missile.
“An analysis of the footage and an assessment on the ground indicate that the children’s hospital most likely suffered a direct hit and not damage from a weapon system,” said the head of the UN human rights monitoring mission.
The affected hospital building was used for dialysis of children with kidney failure or acute poisoning.
Investigators from the International Criminal Court in The Hague visited the hospital on Tuesday to gather evidence for possible war crimes allegations, the court said. Hospitals and other civilian facilities are protected by international humanitarian law./TheGeopost/
