The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, has disinformed the main reason for the protest of Albanians in the Preševo Valley. He tried to downplay their complaints of deep discrimination by saying that their main reason was that “Kurti’s forces” in Bujanovac could not form a coalition.
What did Vucic say?
“Now they are complaining that Kurti’s forces did not manage to form an independent ruling coalition, especially in Bujanovac, and that is his main problem.” That’s how democracy works, we have no problem with that, nobody beat or harassed them, Serbia is a democratic country.”
Analysis:
The Serbian president misinformed that Albanians were protesting, with the main reason being that they had not managed to form a coalition in Bujanovac, while the main reason for their protest was discrimination against their basic human rights. On the posters were demands such as “We want Albanian books”, “Give back the address”, “Stop selective passivism” and others.
Albanians in Serbia have for years faced a kind of “modern ethnic cleansing” through address passivization, a rights violation that was also denounced in the European Commission’s report on Serbia in 2022, while Germany also reacted to it.
Serbia illegally deactivates the addresses of Albanians to deny their fundamental rights.
The Serbian state also does not recognize the university degrees of those students who study in Kosovo, although an agreement was reached in Brussels between Kosovo and Serbia on this matter, but Serbia continues to violate it.
This is the second protest by Albanians in Serbia. The first one took place in August, and in that protest the Serbian government also gave the false information that it was instigated and led by the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, in order to destabilize the region./The Geopost/
