The Prime Minister of Serbia, Milosh Vučević, disinformed about the alleged “ethnic cleansing of Serbs in Kosovo” and the “terror” of Prime Minister Albin Kurti during a meeting with the Ambassador of Cuba in Belgrade.
What Vucevic said:
“The Prime Minister expressed his concern about the situation in Kosovo and the terror to which the Serbian people are exposed on a daily basis due to the efforts of Albin Kurti to ethnically cleanse the southern Serbian province. He emphasized the need to exert international pressure on Pristina to continue the dialogue with Belgrade and stop the terror against the Serbian people. Vučević expressly thanked Cuba for not supporting the resolution on Srebrenica in the United Nations General Assembly. According to him, this did not contribute to the stabilization of the situation in the region or to the improvement of relations between the Serbian and Bosnian people,” the Serbian government’s statement said, as reported by Serbian media.
Analysis:
There is no organized campaign to ethnically cleanse the Serbs in Kosovo. The Serb community enjoys the protection of international missions such as KFOR and EULEX, and the Kosovo authorities are making efforts to integrate the Serbs into the political and social system of Kosovo.
Vučević calls for pressure on Pristina to continue dialogue with Belgrade, but does not mention that Serbian authorities, with the support of parallel Serbian structures in Kosovo, have often blocked efforts to normalize relations. Kosovo has repeatedly emphasized the need for dialogue, while Belgrade has often used this issue as a means to score political points in the country.
Also, Belgrade regularly uses political narratives about the threat of Serbs as a means to maintain its influence in northern Kosovo.
In his speech, Vučević thanked Cuba for not recognizing the resolution on Srebrenica, which is also part of a broader policy of manipulating historical facts./The Geopost/
