Top Serbian, Russian and Chinese disinformation in the past week

Kosovo, the West and Ukraine were the target of Russian propaganda and disinformation last week.

It was the director of the so-called Office for Kosovo in Serbia, Petar Petkovic, who accused the Kosovo police of abuse and misinformation after intervening in a case of unrest.

“Nobody would swallow the lies of the so-called Kosovo Police! They say that the tear gas was activated by mistake and they call harassing and detaining children with long guns a ‘democratic procedure’. Tear gas for Serbian children because they sing Serbian songs – this is the true face of Kurti’s terror!”, he has misinformed although it is known that official Kosovo Police sources have denied these allegations and stated that they acted in accordance with the law and procedures.

Kosovo police have issued a statement denying allegations of the deliberate use of tear gas against Serb youths. The police state that the tear gas was accidentally activated during the operation and that their detention was not malicious, but part of standard procedure in public order disturbances.

He also disinformed about the case of the arrest of a Serb for breaking the law and even stated that “arrests of Serbs in Kosovo are politically motivated and part of a campaign by the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, to provoke a new crisis.” This claim is part of a wider propaganda campaign by Belgrade for the Kosovo authorities and is intended to divert attention from their responsibility.

It is well known that the arrests in Kosovo are the result of violations of the law and not of political strategies. The arrest of L.D., which Petkovic misinformed about, is related to his involvement in violent incidents and not an attempt by Kosovo to provoke tensions. Kosovo Police announced that L.D. was arrested for his involvement in the incidents in front of the municipal building in Zvecan, citing legal and non-political reasons for his arrest.

And Russia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Vasily Nebenzya, has disinformed that “the regime of Volodymyr Zelenskyi is incapable of negotiating”, while accusing the West of obstructing the peace process.

Although Russia claims to be willing to negotiate, numerous international analyses and reports show that Russian proposals for negotiations are often followed by military action, undermining confidence in their sincerity. The use of force in the face of diplomatic initiatives casts doubt on Moscow’s true intentions.

Ukrainian officials have repeatedly expressed their willingness to negotiate, but under conditions that would guarantee Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. Any peace plan that does not provide for the withdrawal of Russian forces from the occupied territories is unacceptable to Kiev.

While Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian misinformed the G7 countries that supposedly “their economies are declining year after year,” he added that “even taken together, they supposedly contribute less to the global economy than China.” He also disinformed about the policy goals of this group.

The G7 is committed to modernizing the international financial architecture and enabling it to address current global challenges. Moreover, the total GDP of the G7 countries is about 15 trillion dollars higher than that of the BRICS countries. Therefore, Jian’s statements that the G7 countries contribute less to global economic growth than China do not hold water./The Geopost/
