The Serbian media “Kosovo Online” has disinformed about the state of Kosovo in relation to drugs in the country through a caricature of the day. This media, which broadcasts news in Serbian, but also in Albanian and English, aims to portray Kosovo as a country involved in drug-related crime.
And this is the first time that “Kosovo Online” has tried to portray Kosovo badly in this respect. It has done the same thing before.
What message does the caricature convey?
In a caricature, “Kosovo Online” has shown the flag of Kosovo with a slightly deformed map and a “joint” at the end.
Analysis:
This media conveys through both writings and caricature the false information that Kosovo is a drug state where the laws do not work and that there are drug cartels. By doing so, it tries to claim that there is no legal system for these actions as part of its goals to desecrate the state of Kosovo.
But this is not true. According to international reports, Kosovo is a safe country and the Kosovo Police has proven to be effective in preventing drugs and fighting organized crime. In May 2021, Kosovo Police seized 400 kg of cocaine from Brazil. The cargo entered Kosovo from Albania (via the port of Durrës) and was hidden in a truck. Weapons, ammunition and other items were also seized during the search of the homes of the people arrested in connection with this case.
The Global Initiative against Transnational Organized Crime (GI-TOC), together with the Italian Embassy in Kosovo, had organized a conference at which it said that in this context there was a need to intensify the exchange of information between the law enforcement authorities of all countries affected by the phenomenon of human trafficking.
Moreover, Kosovo’s legislation is strict in combating this phenomenon and drug possession or trafficking is usually punished with long prison sentences./G. Venhari – The Geopost/
