The Russian portal Sputnik Serbia has published a message in which it disinforms about the American patrol plane P-8A “Poseidon” and falsely claims that it is a “spy plane” and that its overflight is a provocation of the USA and NATO.
Sputnik Serbia writes:
According to “Flightradar”, an American spy plane was spotted over the Black Sea west of Crimea. The P-8A “Poseidon” aircraft took off from the Sigonella base in Sicily.
Analysis:
The P-8A “Poseidon” is not a spy plane, as reported by Sputnik, but a maritime patrol aircraft used to track submarines, ships and monitor sea routes. These missions are part of NATO’s defense strategy to maintain stability in the region, especially against the backdrop of Russian activities in the Black Sea following the annexation of Crimea.
The aircraft flew over the territorial waters of the airspace of NATO members, including Greece, Bulgaria and Romania. Such flights are perfectly legal under international law.
However, Sputnik presents this operation as a provocation and ignores international regulations on flight operations.
