In a recent text published on RT Balkan, the Secretary of Russia’s National Security Council, Nikolai Patrushev, made a number of controversial claims about NATO activities and the use of depleted uranium during the bombing of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia.
What Patrushev said:
“NATO continues to kill people with depleted uranium 25 years after the aggression against Yugoslavia,” Patrushev said. NATO destroyed numerous cities and led to the deaths of thousands of civilians. The use of depleted uranium ammunition led to soil contamination and a multiple increase in cancer among the population. Depleted uranium continues to kill people a quarter of a century after NATO’s aggression.”
“The North Atlantic Alliance is de facto one of the parties in the Ukraine conflict and is actively involved in organizing the neo-Nazi shelling of Russian territories.”
Analysis:
These claims can be considered disinformation. The use of depleted uranium and the potential health risks associated with it are widely disputed and not clearly confirmed by international and expert bodies.
NATO is a collective defence organization committed to promoting peace, stability and cooperation among its members. Russia, which is trying to blame the West and NATO for the war in Ukraine, is using this kind of disinformation to change public perception and divert attention from its own actions and role in the Ukraine conflict./The Geopost/
