Russian President Vladimir Putin has once again made baseless threats against NATO, using propaganda and disinformation to instil fear and divide Western allies. At a press conference after a visit to Uzbekistan, Putin warned NATO members, especially smaller European countries, that they would suffer the consequences if they allowed Ukraine to launch strikes on Russian territory.
What Putin said:
“These representatives of NATO countries, especially in Europe, and especially small countries, should realise what they are playing with. They should bear in mind that this is usually a country with a small territory and a very dense population. This is a factor they should bear in mind before they invade deep into Russian territory,” Putin said.
Analysis:
Putin is disinforming to create fear among NATO members and reduce their support for Ukraine.
He specifically targets smaller countries to scare them with the possible consequences of Russian attacks.
Putin is also trying to portray NATO as the aggressor in this move, when the reality is that NATO allies are acting in defence of Ukrainian sovereignty and international law.
NATO’s support for Ukraine is based on the principles of protecting sovereignty and territorial integrity, in accordance with international law and the United Nations Charter. Russia’s invasion of Ukraine is a violation of international law, and NATO’s support for Ukraine is a legitimate response to this aggression./G.Venhari-The Geopost/
