The so-called “Office for Kosovo” in Serbia issued a statement falsely stating that “the arrests of Serbs in Kosovo are politically motivated and part of an alleged campaign by Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti to provoke a new crisis”.
This claim is part of a wider propaganda campaign by Belgrade to denigrate the Kosovo authorities and deflect attention from their own responsibility.
What Petkovic said:
“It is clear that Kurti, by continuing the terror he usually exerts during discussions on the possibilities of resuming dialog, wants to provoke the Serbs in Kosovo and further aggravate the situation on the ground and run away from his obligations in Kosovo.” Dialogue. The arrest of Llazar D. last night at the infamous bridge point in Bistrica for last year’s events outside the municipality of Zvecan was purely politically motivated and represents a new attempt by Albin Kurti to aggravate the situation in northern Kosovo and cause a new crisis,” the press release reads.
Analysis:
Arrests in Kosovo are the result of violations of the law and not of political strategies. The arrest of L.D. is related to his involvement in violent incidents and not an attempt by Kosovo to provoke tensions. The Kosovo Police announced that L.D. was arrested for his involvement in the incidents in front of the municipal building in Zvecan, citing legal and non-political reasons for his arrest.
The so-called Office for Kosovo uses disinformation and manipulation to create the image of a constant threat to Serbs in northern Kosovo. These propaganda activities are aimed at destabilizing the situation in Kosovo and undermining international efforts to maintain peace and stability in the region. The statement does not mention that the arrests and detentions are the result of legal proceedings and that the suspects were arrested on suspicion of a criminal offense and not for political reasons.
In this way, the Office ignores the legitimate efforts of the Kosovar authorities to restore law and order. Such statements serve to manipulate public opinion and create an image of continued aggression and injustice towards Serbs in Kosovo, making any attempt at peaceful dialog difficult.
