Petar Petkovic, Director of the so-called Kosovo Office, often uses his position to spread disinformation, propaganda and fabricate facts.
Petkovic disinformed that the regime of Albin Kurti “systematically obstructed dialogue and carried out ethnically motivated violence against Serbs, especially in the north of Kosovo”.
This disinformation was published on the Serbian portal “Kosovo Online”.
What Petkovic said:
“The regime of Albin Kurti has persistently and systematically obstructed dialogue, relying on unilateral, illegal and violent decisions, as well as on the persecution of Serbs, especially from the north of Kosovo, as evidenced by the fact that more than 15% of our compatriots have left this part of the province,” the message reads. “Pristina is trying in every possible way to avoid the obligation to form a Association of Serb Municipalities, as agreed in Brussels in 2013 and set out in 2015”.
Analysis:
The Serbian community in Kosovo has rights guaranteed by the Kosovo Constitution, which guarantees rights to all minorities. The Kosovo authorities are also continuously working to improve conditions for all citizens in Kosovo, including Serbs.
There is no verified report confirming Petkovic’s claims of systematic violence by the Kosovo authorities against Serbs. As for the number of Serbs leaving Kosovo, this figure is often exaggerated in the Belgrade-controlled media.
There is no evidence to confirm that more than 15% of Serbs have left northern Kosovo because of pressure from the Kosovo authorities.
Serbs are leaving Kosovo mainly because of pressure from Serbian List, Belgrade or because of some criminal record in Kosovo.
