Miodrag Zec: From a global power, Russia can end up as a regional power

Speaking about the situation in Ukraine and Russian aggression, economist Miodrag Zec said that Russia, a global power is likely to end up as a regional power, adding that Russia is “running” towards Asia and in the “arms” of China, while China has completely different aspirations.

As he said, Russia has tried to impose itself as an empire throughout history.

“What do they offer to the world?” They offer an authoritarian model as the natural state of such a specific state. It is being modernized under that value system in the conflict between Russians and Ukrainians. This strategy, which will be great and unimaginable for the Russians, Ukrainians, Germans, but also for the Serbs, will come out as a product they did not want and that product is the ‘Ukrainian nation’ in the political sense,” Miodrag Zec said.

He added that when the system “broke down” with the Russians, they could not return to democratic civil society like the Czechs, because they did not have it. According to him, they returned to autocracy.

“The tragedy of Russia that will cost lives is that they created a system in which they make money in Russia and bring it to England, they did not succeed culturally. They did not create a social system that is considered acceptable and that gives people the desire to come to Russia. I think this is the cause of a big problem that they will have now,” said Zec.

The retired economics professor also said that the one who conceived the Russian intervention expected something completely different.

He stressed that the principle that the separation of powers makes democracy and not the unity of power has not been clarified among Serbs and Russians. “Here our case is even more tragic, 90 percent of people do not understand the meaning of power sharing, whoever comes to power loves power with them.”

He asked how it is possible for Russia to make a military truck and a tank without being able to make a car?

“In Russia, the other thing that has never been thought about is how can that country get to the moon and not be able to make an electric iron, but it has to import it. How can they make a military truck or a tank and not make a car? The Russians make a good aircraft and now have no civil aviation. The rich Russians were not enriched with innovations, they were enriched with oil, aluminum and they did not invent anything, so it is a redistribution system. Which kind of country Russia is and what can it mean when those who earn the most in it go and send the money to England? The only indicator of the quality of a country’s system is whether people go there or leave that country?”.
