Russia’s political spokesman uses threats and statements to spread fear and disinformation about the West, to justify Russian actions and to discredit Western leaders. Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council, claims that a possible Western intervention in Ukraine could lead to a global catastrophe, in an attempt to create an image of the West as the aggressor.
What Medvedev said:
A global catastrophe will happen. By the way, Kennedy and Khrushchev could have understood this more than 60 years ago, but the current infantile fools in power in the West do not want this to happen,” he said on Telegram.
Analysis:
These statements are Russian propaganda, trying to mislead the public and justify Russian policy. The accusations that the West is preparing aggression against Ukraine are not based on facts and serve as a means to create a hostile environment towards the West. In addition, it tries to win public sympathy by mentioning Kennedy and Khrushchev, thereby implying that Western leaders are incapable of learning from history.
Such statements only serve to escalate tensions and make diplomatic dialogue to resolve the crisis more difficult. The attempt to manipulate historical examples also serves to create the perception that the West is incapable of understanding geopolitical situations and that Russia is the messenger of truth and stability./G.Venhari-The Geopost/
