Vladislav Maslenikov, Director of the European Affairs Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry, is spreading disinformation claiming that the European Union has experienced a “complete failure” as a mediator in the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue.
What Maslenikov said:
“The European Union has experienced a complete failure as a mediator between Belgrade and Pristina and has for many years failed to honour its commitments to form a Association of Serbian Municipalities,” Maslenikov said at the panel discussion “The Balkan region in the Eurasian security system”.
Analysis:
Maslenikov is trying to discredit the European Union and its mediation efforts, while concealing Serbia’s destructive role in the dialogue with Kosovo.
But the facts show otherwise. Despite all the challenges, the EU remains the only credible and constructive facilitator of dialogue. Brussels is not only working for a deal, but also for long-term stability and security in the Western Balkans, which offers a clear European perspective for all countries in the region.
The European Union is the key address for the future of the Balkans – both politically and economically. Full EU membership remains the only realistic path to lasting peace, development and overcoming past conflicts.
Maslenikov’s statement is yet another attempt to weaken the EU and expand Russian influence – at a time when the region needs a clear orientation towards the West, democracy and European values./The Geopost/
