Lavrov disinforms about the West: They don’t want to prevent escalation, they want war

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has disinformed about the intentions of the West in the war in Ukraine, stating that they do not want to prevent an escalation, but they want war. Lavrov also said that Ukraine’s demand to deploy the long-range “Storm Shadow” missiles was blackmail.

What did Lavrov say?

“This is blackmail, an attempt to pretend that the West wants to avoid excessive escalation.” In fact, they are full of wickedness. Avoiding escalation is not what the West is aiming for. To put it simply, they are simply choose a war. I think that has become clear to everyone. We have long heard speculation that Ukraine may deploy not only Storm Shadow missiles, but also long-range missiles made in the USA. There was an anonymous source in Washington who said they were working on it. This source claimed that their overall assessment of Ukraine’s request was quite positive. I will stop there. President Vladimir Putin said it all some time ago.”

Analysis:

Ukraine has asked the West for permission to use long-range Storm Shadow missiles to destroy targets deep inside Russia because they believe this could force Moscow to negotiate an end to the fighting. They have therefore tried to use it to stop Russia’s destructive war in Ukraine. However, this request has not yet received the support of the US and Lavrov’s statements that a “source” told him that they are working on approving the request is disinformation.

Lavrov constantly disinforms that the West wants a war with Russia, although it is known that the West has made many efforts to stop the war and human suffering in Ukraine. To this end, an international peace summit was organized, officially called the “Summit for Peace in Ukraine”, which took place from 15 to 16 June 2024 at the Bürgenstock Resort in Switzerland. The conference followed a series of four previous international meetings and was organized by Swiss President Viola Amherd. Russia had also boycotted this summit as it had no interest in peace.
