Lavrov disinforms: The US finances terrorist attacks

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has made a baseless and false accusation against the United States, saying that the US is trying to maintain its hegemony in the world through methods of outright terror and direct financing of terrorist attacks by the Kiev regime against civilians on Russian territory. These statements are part of a wider Russian propaganda campaign of disinformation.

What Lavrov said:

It is an absolute anomaly when a country lists Cuba as a state sponsor of terrorism, and at the same time this same country – the US, together with its satellites, is trying to maintain an unattainable hegemony in the world by methods of outright terror, by using methods of economic, financial, diplomatic terrorism, by directly financing terrorist attacks by the neo-Nazi regime in Kiev on civilians on Russian territory.

Analysis:

Lavrov’s claims about the US are unfounded and part of Moscow’s strategy to blame the West for problems of its own making.

The US is committed to fighting terrorism and to providing assistance to countries facing terrorist threats, including Ukraine, which is fighting separatist and Russian forces on its territory.

While Lavrov accuses the West of terrorism, it is Russia that is actively destabilising regions by supporting separatists and using military forces in neighbouring countries.

The real threat to regional stability comes from Moscow, which supports its geopolitical objectives and the weakened democracies in neighbouring countries in every possible way.
