Kosovo and Ukraine have been the target of Serbian and Russian propaganda over the past week.
Serbia has long been propagating that Serbs in Kosovo are being mistreated and discriminated by the Kosovar government.
Just last week, the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, made the false statement during a Security Council meeting at the United Nations that “Serbs in Kosovo are mistreated and oppressed by Kosovo institutions” without providing any evidence. These allegations were rejected by the Helsinki Committee, the European Parliament and others.
Disinformation about Kosovo also came in the week we left behind from the Russian representative to the United Nations, Vasily Nebenzya, who falsely claimed that “if we do not stop the Albanians, the Balkans will enter a hot phase”. This statement is just another attempt to maintain the status quo and divert attention from the real challenges, which are not in Russia’s favor.
On the other hand, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov is propagandizing the war in Ukraine because of Western aid and says that there is a risk of direct military confrontation between the nuclear powers. However, an analysis of the facts refutes these claims and reveals that Russian propaganda serves to intimidate and disinform.
Stoking fear of a possible nuclear conflict is used by Russian propaganda to destabilize the West and to foment mistrust of the West through manipulation.
There was also misinformation about US aid to Ukraine. “Alo” claimed that the $61 billion in financial assistance authorized by Congress would not have a significant impact on the situation in the country.
This assistance is a critical step in strengthening defense capabilities, supporting democratic reforms, and preserving Ukraine’s sovereignty. This is very important for Ukraine to counter Russian aggression and ensure stability in the region.
And Dmitry Peskov, the Kremlin spokesman, is spreading propaganda about the alleged involvement of the US in the conflict in Ukraine, based on the delivery of long-range missiles to Kiev.
Russia therefore wants to weaken American support for Ukraine so that it can pursue its goals in the region. However, American aid to Ukraine is not interference in the conflict, but support for the country’s sovereignty and democratic processes./G.Venhari-The Geopost/
