Retired General Milorad Stupar, founder and first commander of the 72nd Special Operations Brigade of Serbia, disinforms that Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti, with the tacit support of the West, is persecuting Serbs and that he is directly linked, as he said, to the construction of a NATO base around Serbia.
What Stupar said:
“Looking at the situation from Serbia’s position as a militarily neutral country, it is clear that our otherwise difficult geo-strategic position is worsening with the intensive construction of NATO bases in Albania, Bulgaria and Romania. They are not made for us, but for Russia, but in the event of any escalation in Kosovo, they would certainly be engaged against our country. That is why the Kurti government is constantly provoking conflicts in the southern province in the hope that NATO will turn against Belgrade again”, Stupar said.
Analysis:
The statements of the former Serbian general are part of a wider narrative that seeks to portray Serbia as a victim of international conspiracies while ignoring the real challenges and problems. Such claims are the responsibility of propaganda that seeks to promote NATO as a threat and source of instability for Serbia, despite the fact that NATO’s role in the region is primarily stabilisation and defence.
The NATO bases in Albania, Bulgaria and Romania are not a target for Serbia, as Stupar says, but are part of an overall strategy to counter possible threats coming from Russia. These bases were created as a result of an agreement between the independent countries that are members of NATO, and are intended to improve the alliance’s defence capabilities in accordance with the rules of international law.
Opinion polls show that Serbian citizens often give more importance to aid from Russia and China, while neglecting support from the EU./G.Venhari-The Geopost/
