Another problem for Putin, refinery in Siberia stops work after Ukrainian airstrike

An oil refinery in the Tyumen region of Western Siberia has completely halted crude oil processing and the production of derivatives after a drone attack this weekend that damaged secondary processing units, two industry sources told Reuters.

On Saturday, the governor of the Tyumen region, Alexander Moor, confirmed that a Ukrainian drone hit the Tyumen refinery, causing a fire at the facility.

According to sources, the drone attack on July 25 caused a fire in a unit for the hydrogen treatment of diesel (diesel hydrotreating), with a capacity of 2.6 million metric tons per year, as well as in a combined unit for the production of high-octane gasoline.

Sources said it is difficult to estimate how long the repairs will take, writes timesofmoscow.

The company RI-Invest, which owns the Tyumen refinery, did not respond to Reuters' request for comment.

The diesel hydrotreatment unit was already undergoing repairs last month, following a fire on June 6, caused by internal technical problems.

The Tyumen refinery has a total production capacity of 9 million metric tons per year. In 2024, it processed 5.7 million tons of crude oil, producing about 0.5 million tons of gasoline and 2.8 million tons of diesel, according to industry sources.
