The visit of the bipartisan US Congressional delegation to Kosovo and the Presevo Valley is being assessed as a strong signal of the United States' continued support for Albanians in the region and for Kosovo's Euro-Atlantic perspective.
The delegation, composed of US Congressmen Keith Self and Suhas Subramanyam, is visiting the region at the request of the organization Albanians for America.
According to assessments made during the visit, this represents evidence of the continued American commitment to peace, stability, and the rights of Albanians in the Balkans, at a time when the region faces numerous political and security challenges.
The visit comes at an important moment for Kosovo, just before new political and electoral processes, while it was emphasized that relations with the US remain key to the country's Euro-Atlantic journey.
An important part of the agenda was also a visit to the Presheva Valley, where American congressmen learned firsthand about the concerns of Albanians there, including the passivation of addresses, institutional discrimination, and the lack of equal representation.
The visit has also been compared to that of the American delegation led by Senator Bob Dole in 1990 to Kosovo, which is considered a historic moment that influenced the internationalization of the Kosovo issue.
In this context, it was emphasized that Albanians in the region continue to need American support and engagement, especially in the face of the challenges faced by Albanians in the Presevo Valley.
Congressman Keith Self has been cited as one of the most active voices in the US Congress in support of Kosovo and the rights of Albanians in Serbia. He has publicly called for greater support for Kosovo's Euro-Atlantic integration and has proposed initiatives related to Kosovo's membership in NATO.
Likewise, Self, along with US Congressmen Ritchie Torres and Mike Lawler, has supported resolutions that call for advancing Kosovo's international position and increasing American support for security in the Balkans.
In statements regarding the region, it has been emphasized that the Balkans remain a sensitive area for European stability, especially at a time when global tensions and the war in Ukraine have increased concerns about security in Europe.
According to assessments made during the visit, the partnership between Kosovo and the US remains one of the main pillars of Kosovo's stability and strategic orientation towards Euro-Atlantic structures.
