University professor in Belgrade, Ivan Videnović, has reacted sharply to the memorandum published by the student movement in Serbia on Kosovo, saying that it confirms the continuity of a closed nationalist framework that, according to him, dates back to the Memorandum of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts (SANU), the policies of Dobrica Čosić and Slobodan Milošević, and the political manipulations of Vojislav Šešelj.
In a long statement on the social network "X", Videnović assesses that the student movement, which was shaped by the protests of 2024-2025, has shown with this document that it has not broken away from the political and ideological legacy of Serbian nationalism of recent decades.
According to him, the memorandum adopted in Kragujevac implies the non-acceptance of the consequences of lost wars and war crimes of the Slobodan Milosevic regime, confirmed by the Hague Tribunal, as well as the rejection of the international legal framework, including the UN Security Council resolutions of 1998 and 1999 (1160, 1199, 1203 and 1239), which were adopted against the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia.
He also mentions UN Resolution 1244 and the Rambouillet Agreement, emphasizing that these documents, according to him, also include the right of Kosovo citizens to self-determination within the then legal framework of the FRY, as well as the developments that led to its dissolution and the creation of new states in the region, including Kosovo.
Videnović points out that the International Court of Justice's 2010 ruling found that Kosovo's declaration of independence is not contrary to international law.
The Serbian professor also criticizes the students' stance on the process of normalizing relations between Kosovo and Serbia, saying that their document rejects the Brussels and Ohrid Agreements, which are part of the dialogue process mediated by the European Union and Chapter 35 of Serbia's EU membership negotiations.
According to him, this stance means, in practice, the rejection of Serbia's European integration process and sets the country on a political course that could lead to international isolation and new regional tensions.
At the end of his reaction, Videnović argues that the student movement, despite its origins in civic protests against corruption and the current government, with this memorandum has positioned itself on the same ideological line as nationalist political actors in Serbia, making no essential distinction from the past and present political structures in the country.
