Belgrade called it a threat, NATO responds to Serbia that complained about the Croatia-Albania-Kosovo military alliance

NATO Deputy Secretary General Radmila Shekerinska has commented on Serbia's reactions regarding the military agreement between Croatia, Albania and Kosovo, emphasizing that the two alliance member countries are important contributors to peace and stability in the region.

In an interview with the Beta news agency, she stated that Albania and Croatia are reliable and active allies within NATO, including their engagement in the KFOR peacekeeping mission.

"Albania and Croatia are not only reliable and valuable allies within the Alliance. They are also important contributors to regional peace and stability. They are present in KFOR, but in general they are very focused on supporting this agenda in the region," said Shekerinska.

The senior NATO official also stressed that the alliance is not involved in discussions about the agreement in question and that NATO membership does not prevent an allied state from entering into other defense agreements with third countries.

"What we see in general is that, of course, the global geopolitical situation has also affected the region. You see more exercises, more investments in defense and security, but we always call on allies and partners to also engage in political dialogue and resolving outstanding issues in the region. Our presence in the Western Balkans aims to support this kind of political dialogue," she said.

The comments come after Serbia reacted days ago to meetings and military cooperation between Croatia, Albania and Kosovo, presenting this development as a threat to its security.
