Belgrade lawyer Ivan Ninic has made serious accusations against Serbian state structures and the former Belgrade police chief, Veselin Milic, saying that the authorities attempted to cover up the incident that occurred at the "27" restaurant in Senjak, until information began circulating on social media.
In an interview for the show "Probudi se" on TV Nova, Ninic said that if the case related to Aleksandar Neshovic Baja had not gone "viral", public opinion probably would not have heard anything about the event.
According to him, individuals from the criminal environment, including Miloš Medenica from Montenegro, published details that forced institutions to react.
"Information started to leak out and the authorities were forced to clarify the situation. There are many witnesses to what happened that night in Senjak," Ninic declared.
He said he believes there were attempts to cover up the case, comparing the situation to the death of lawyer Vladimir Cvijan.
Ninic also harshly criticized Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic for the way he reacted to the arrest of Veselin Milici, saying that the president is behaving as "an advocate for people close to power."
"In the case of Miliq we have VIP treatment. While students, professors or activists are arrested with cameras and media propaganda, here we have a completely different approach," he said.
According to the Serbian lawyer, Milić is part of an organized crime structure that operates "under the auspices of the state."
He alleged that in Sky ECC app communications, criminals discussed political influence on police appointments.
Ninic said that Zvonko Veselinovic had exerted pressure through Andrej Vucic against Milic's appointment as police director.
"The criminals were talking about this on Sky communications," he declared.
The lawyer also recalled the well-known "Savamala" case, saying that the operation could not have been carried out without the knowledge of Veselin Miliqi.
"It was not possible to organize Savamala without his knowledge. Police patrols had to be blocked," said Ninic.
He also raised doubts about the former police officer's wealth, emphasizing that Milić owns luxury properties in Dedinje, which, according to him, cannot be justified with the salary of a police officer.
"Milić bought a 200 square meter apartment worth over 1.3 million euros. What criminal inspector can afford such a fortune?" he asked.
Ninic added that the investigations must clarify in what capacity Milic was at the restaurant in Senjak and why, according to him, traces and footage from the scene of the incident have disappeared.
"Everything has been cleaned up like in the movies," he declared.
In the end, the lawyer said that Milić is currently "the safest in prison," alluding to the risk of reprisals from criminal circles.
