Olena Churanova is a communications professional with a career path spanning both academic and practical journalism. She received her PhD in communication and media studies from the National University 'Kievo-Mogiljans'ka Akademija'Nacional'nij Universitet 'Kievo-Mogiljans'ka Akademija'. She also holds a master's degree in journalism and a bachelor's degree in broadcast journalism from reputable accredited institutions in Ukraine. She is currently a senior lecturer at the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy (Ukraine), where she teaches journalism and media studies and other related subjects. She also acts as a fact-checker with StopFake.org where she supports efforts to stop the menace of fake news in our contemporary society.
Her research interests include social media, political communication on social media, and social media as a new way of civic engagement.
She has authored and co-authored a wide range of articles in reputable academic journals in her areas of research interest. One of her recent works focuses on the use of social media by Ukrainian politicians, images and stereotypes that are constructed on social media platforms.
