Dr. Michael Beam is the Director and Associate Professor in the interdisciplinary School of Emerging Media and Technology at Kent State University in Ohio, US. He also holds an appointment in the School of Communication Studies. His research investigates the impact of media systems on political polarization and information creation, exposure, and processing. Michael teaches courses in new communication technologies, media effects, political communication, and quantitative research methods.
His interest in communication research stems from his experience working in media and information technology. Before becoming a professor, he spent over a decade working as a computer system administrator and network technologist.
