Behind this idea is, in fact, the intention of the president of Serbia, but above all the president of the Serbian Progressive Party, to rebrand a rather unpopular party.
Not so long ago, Aleksandar Vulin, one of the closest and most important people of Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, uttered a catchphrase about the need to create a unified Serbian world. The unique idea of the current Minister of Police was aimed at putting Vucic at the center of the story as the undisputed leader of the unified Serbian political world.
Wherever he had the opportunity to show himself in public, Vulin fiddled about that Serbian world. He insisted on this topic so much that Vucic also had to correct him and refer to the fact that he is only the president of Serbia, while Vulin regularly ignored it and claimed that Vucic is the president of all Serbs. And then, like a thunderbolt out of the blue, Vucic threw out the idea of the need to create a new political movement whose goal would be to save Serbia, and which would be made up of all decent people. According to Vucic, a hybrid war is being waged against Serbia, both from the West and from the East, and that is why the Serbian bloc is needed to prevent it.
This, as Vucic explained, would be a counterbalance to the extremes in Serbia, both on the “right” and on the “left”. His idea was eagerly accepted by Vulin, as well as Vucic’s friend and on-call mega-fundraiser who greets Vucic’s every statement with applause and additional clarifications, deputy Vladimir Djukanovic. Vulin forgot that until yesterday he was talking about the Serbian world and switched to the Serbian bloc for a decent Serbia, and the unfortunate Djukanovic no longer remembers how he boasted that in his home, next to the icon of the baptismal glory, there is a picture of Russian President Vladimir Putin, which surely classified as pro-Russian extremists.
Rebranding of an unpopular party
Behind this idea is, in fact, the intention of the President of Serbia, but above all the President of the Serbian Progressive Party, to rebrand a rather unpopular party that has reached the figure of 700,000 members. Not even the Communist Party of Serbia had so many members. Vucic, in all probability, became aware that his party in Serbia is much weaker than he is and that the moment has come to change something.
In the elections six months ago, Vucic received 17 percent more votes than his party. Thanks to the electoral law in Serbia, local self-governments are also elected according to the proportional system without the obligation to state in the campaign who is the candidate for mayor. The holder of all lists is Vucic and based on his name, the progressives rule in all municipalities and cities, except for three or four.
Vucic also, who knows how many times in a row, announced that after the April elections he would no longer be the president of the SNS, but he never realized that. More visible members of SNS have recorded several videos in which, in a desperate move, they try to convince their boss not to leave the helm of the party. The degree of humiliation to which these members agreed, by participating in this kind of propaganda is difficult to measure to the normal world.
In the end, it will happen that the president of Serbia resigns from the position of the head of the SNS, and then at the same meeting he will be elected as the leader of that new movement, which, for now, has the working title – Serbian bloc for a decent Serbia. Vucic said from New York that this movement will be formed in the next six months. Preparations for the formation of a new movement, as we know, are taking a long time. After all, it was Djukanovic who announced this on social networks, still not considering himself an extremist who keeps Putin’s picture in his home.
And, precisely such extremes are being “attacked” by Vucic’s main comrades. Now, allegedly, they are being bothered by right-wingers who have Russia a little more close to their hearts than they would like. It’s a little difficult for us to swallow something like that, because the father of the President of Serbia was also present at the rallies for the Rescue of Russia, that is, for the Rescue of Serbia. If Vucic does not have that kind of authority to explain to his father that it is not appropriate for him to appear at such an event, since his son is the president of Serbia, who may have problems because of that, how will he manage to explain the same to the citizens of Serbia.
Of course, this is another top-notch manipulation by the President of Serbia. He is the one who organized the rallies, ostensibly, for the salvation of Serbia and the downfall of the LGBTQ+ community. At that procession, there were more Russian symbols than Serbian ones, but the possibility is not ruled out that there were many people who appeared there voluntarily, and not under Vucic’s direction, and that’s the worry in his head. And his dad is in the front row.
Only Vucic is fighting for Serbia
The most dangerous thing is that Vucic also called that little common-sense part of Serbia extremists, but from the other political pole. For him, these are left-wing libertarians, and what they have in common with those on the right is that they all work against Serbia. Only he, poor man, fights for Serbia 24 hours a day, thinks of Serbia and works in favor of Serbia. Well, there are also Vulin and Djukanovic.
Vucic gave himself the right to equate people who advocate for the European Union, the value system that belongs to the modern European world, those who fight for ecology and who are in favor of respecting the freedom of movement guaranteed by the Constitution and first of all to openly express their views, with right-wing extremists who they are rooting for Russia to occupy the whole of Ukraine, for Putin’s picture to be in every Serbian home, and not only at Djukanovic’s, who are afraid of the gay parade and who attack the police with shovels.
It may be that Vucic overplayed his hand and that everything is not going as well as he imagined. He expects to rebrand SNS by calling for a decent Serbia with everything Vulin and Djukanovic. There is no need to expand the list of “decent”, these two are quite sufficient examples of Vucic’s “decent Serbia”. If Vucic passes this idea, it will be the beginning of the realization of his eternal survival in power, modeled after Putin. If this does not worry decent Serbia, some other “decent” will take matters into their own hands and place Serbia on the brink of ruin. /AL JAZEERA/
